We were there in early spring so the weather wasn't good for the beach. We had a toddler with us and enjoyed the indoor pool instead.
The rooms were "tired" and the single room was too small
relaxing atmosphere and very helpfull staff
near beach an town
Hotel Staff where excellent, very friendly and polite, also the proximity to the shopping centre.
I travel to Dorset once a month and I always stay at the Wessex. Provides good value for money and its location is ideal for my purposes
place is now starting to look and feel a bit jaded and could do with a bit of tlc
The position of the hotel was very near the seafront and the centre of Bournemouth. The breakfasts were excellent and the swimming pool was very clean, warm and pleasant to use
The hotel seemed over warm. It would benefit from an extensive update although it was all very clean, just dated and tatty (apart from the reception/bar area)
great stay ,10 out of 10 , not had any problems at the wessex ,after staying here 13 times , very hot water ,big baths ,great staff, good breakfast ,very clean rooms ,what more can i say
we found the staff to be very pleasant and they made our stay a good experience
the prices of the drinks and meals were a bit high and the choice of food in the restaurant was limited unless you liked things in sauces.we booked a table for the roast one evening but we cancelled as we were informed it would be a lamb shank in a sauce which we did not consider this to be a proper english roast
Stafff attitude, Service, Location, Condition of room.
Pillows. Water leek in mens toilet on the flush system, as a plumber it has been like it for a long time due to scale build up.
We likrd the location and set out espaecially the foyer and bar area, also the resaurant area was very nice, also the staff were very pleasant
Although we booked very late we didnt really like our room it was clean etc but had a view of just walls at the back and the bathroom had no window at all. Also it was quite noisy as it was quite a thoroughfare especially mornings. My only complaint was my gluten free diet. I did inform the staff on booking my reservation and also when I arrived, but it was not dealt with in the restaurant, and if I had eaten it would have been very ill. Its very important to a coeliac that there are no mistakes and the staff need to be aware we are in the minority but its still important
Convenient for beach and for bus service.
Lack of drawers fo r putting clothes into. Lacl og handrail in shower.
We have stayed at the Wessex before, and chose it again this time for its good location and safe, secure parking, as well as the price. We like the large open lounge and bar area downstairs which look welcoming, as does the restaurant. The staff were very helpful and pleasant throughout our stay. Our room was perfectly adequate for our needs, and nicely decorated and furnished, but it would have made our stay nicer had we been allocated one of the larger rooms (as we had been on previous stays), given that we were there for five days.
The room was at the back of the hotel with not much of a view. It also had quite a small window making it difficult to get fresh air into the room which, because it was very warm during our stay, made it uncomfortable at night. The bathroom, although a really nice size, was badly lit and could do with a much brighter light. The fan also seemed to go on for hours after the light had been switched off. Breakfast was very good, but it would have been nice to have had a different choice of fresh fruit available on some days.
The room was not ready on arrival we had to wait a futher 20 minutes. Our room was near the stairs which gave a lot of noise late at night.
The hotel is well situated for both the town center, cliff walks and for the transport system. Staff are friendly and helpful.
The hotel is rather tired looking and the rooms are dated, the tv was very small screen. The dining room had no atmosphere and the menu was rather chips with everything which was rather a shame as the meal was well cooked and presented.
The location is ideal for the shopping centre and also access to the beach. Since our last visit they have converted to free wi-fi (the last time it was £6 per hour!) which is a big plus. Our room on this visit was much better - our last visit had us in a fairly small double room.
Room maintenance wasnt great. The single bedside light didnt work and the tap mounting on the bath was loose.
